FIELD TRIPS

We're loading up the family fun van and heading to the Boston Children's Museum for a "Family Field Trip" today. I'm considering it for a real field trip this year and am excited to check it out.

If you follow me on Instagram (cfclassroom), you can come with us virtually. I thought it would be fun to see where you all go so ....
Where do you take your class for field trips

  2. I have taught so many grade levels, and went on some great and not so great field trips. My favorite field trips have either been to the theater, which I LOVE sharing with kids, or going to the dairy. Every year, it is fun to watch the lightbulb moment when they realize there are no "boy cows" at the dairy.

    1. Hi Emily,
The field trip options are endless, BUT weekday traffic is brutal...esp. on a school bus! :) Jodi

  3. Oh how fun! I loved Boston but I didn't get a chance to go to the Children's Museum. We take our 5th graders on the Mud Walk (yep, that's exactly what it sounds like), it's a two day field trip to the Environmental Center. One wet day and one dry day, lol. We also go to LegoLand as their big farewell field trip. Can't wait to follow along with you!

    1. Hi Sabra,

I checked out your blog to see if you were from Central Florida. I did my grad work at UCF and started my teaching career in Seminole County. I miss it tons! The Mud Walk sounds like a nightmare. I do not enjoy nature. :) Jodi

  4. Our school had a great experience at the children's museum last year. I didn't know you were local!! Now I'm even more excited to be following your blog! You should definitely stop at flour bakery up at Fort Point if you have the chance :)

    1. Hi Megan,
I wish I read this comment earlier. We literally parked across the street from the bakery. Hubby commented on how busy it was and that "it must be good." I would have loved to have tried it out. What town are you in? :) Jodi

  5. I teach about 45 minutes outside of Chicago and I love taking my students on what is for most of them their first visit into the city and the museum or aquarium. They are completely amazed and so excited on the bus ride when they begin to see the city skyline. Oh, and once downtown you can imagine them trying to see how high the skyscrapers are out of the bus window.

  6. Wow, that Museum looks big and I like how it's on the waterfront. Our field trips include a pumpkin patch farm, an onsite school Harvest Festival (carnival), San Diego Wild Animal Park, Science Observatory and Legoland/Sealife.

Hope you had a fun day!

  8. I love to take my students on field trips that involve science. We have a beautiful lake nearby where science docents give handson presentations on a variety of topics. I also love to take my kiddos to the public library. "Free?!" "We can borrow these books for free?!" Such fun! ...and so important for children and families to know about this great resource!

    1. Hi Camille,
I was actually just thinking the other day when we were at the library that it would be fun to take a class trip there. Do you do any specific program or just introduce them to it? :) Jodi

  9. All of your guys field trips sound like so much fun! So far we have only had the funds to go on one field trip a year. My first year we went to Heifer International, which was very fun, but I wish we could have made it out to Heifer Farm. We were also able to go to the Clinton library, since the two are right next to each other. It was very informational!

Tis past year we went to Mid American Science Museum, which was a lot of fun. The kids absolutely loved it!

    1. Hi Jillian,
Have you ever used donors choose.org? You may be able to get an additional trip funded. :)Jodi

    2. I have used donors choose, and love it! I have yet to get enough points to ask for a field trip and have only asked for books and technology so far, but I'm hoping after I get my next project granted that I will be able to get a second field trip funded :)

  10. We take our first graders to the zoo. We learn all about the animals we are going to see... it fits perfectly with our Science curriculum!

I did a zoo field trip when I taught K. I bought them all animal print hats from oriental trading and we made tshirts for the trip...such cute pictures. :) Jodi

  11. In my 2 years teaching we have had 3 field trips to the farm and 1 to the zoo. I am so ready for a new place to take a field trip to!

    1. LOL...If I did the math correctly that means you went to the farm twice in the same year? Is it a big farm? :) Jodi

  12. We traditionally go to Zion National Park, because we live less than 20 miles away. Zion is an AMAZING place, and there is so much to learn there about native animal and plant life, geography and geology, western pioneers, weather and climate... and more! The kids get a big kick out of hearing that my husband and I were married inside the park, and that my husband's family on his mother's side were the original homesteaders/ranchers in what is now the main canyon of the park (some of the remnants of their home and orchard are still visible). I don't usually mention to the first graders that we also scattered my mom's ashes there a few years ago! We have also gone to a local farm in the past, and we usually go to one or two of the high school drama productions.

That sounds like an amazing place and how nice that you have such personal connections to it. :) Jodi

  14. We used to live near Boston and are big fans of the Museum of Science and also the Freedom Trail. I also love the zoos nearby. Our local library has a summer program that was like a field trip each week.
Now we moved our famiy to Mexico and our life here is like a field trip extravaganza!

  16. We have gone to Plimoth Plantation, the Boston Duck Tours, and most recently--the Museum of Fine Arts. The kids love spotting the famous Paul Revere portrait in the gallery!

  17. I have the joy of taking my 3rd graders from Tampa to Kennedy Space Center. We spend the night under the Saturn V Rocket as part of the Overnight Adventure Program. It is amazing. This will be my 7th year, if scheduling works out.

  18. I spent 12 years taking my 5th graders from NC on student-designed trips all over the eastern U.S. - Williamsburg; Washington, DC; Boston (twice!); Atlanta; Charleston, SC; Baltimore and Annapolis; Chicago; Philadelphia (twice!); San Antonio; and Savannah. Boston was one of my favorites, although I am a little biased, being a native. We visited the Museum of Science, Fenway Park, Quincy Market, the Freedom Trail, the North End, Plimoth Plantation, and the North End. It was amazing!
