Sports Themed Classrooms

Throughout the month of June, I am going to run a Classroom Theme Series and feature a different popular classroom theme each day. Themes are a great way to tie everything in your classroom together...you just have to be careful not to let them clutter your classroom :) Today we are going to lace up our sneakers for a Sports Theme!

My 41 Page Sports Themed Classroom Kit is now available in my Teachers Pay Teachers Store. It includes all of the following items shown in the sample pictures below, plus more! Click here to view the kit.
After gathering all of the ideas and creating my sports theme kit, I really want to use this as a theme. What a great way to emphasize teamwork and the importance of practicing something as a means of improvement.

IDEAS:

Use the acronym Together Everyone Achieves More
Name your tables/reading groups sports or actual team names from your area.
Instead of referring to your centers as “centers,” call them “positions.”
Buy inflatable balls and bats and hang them from the ceiling.
Cover pillows with sports team T-shirts.
Refer to the childrens’ seating area as “The Bleachers.”
Label your desk area as “The Coach’s Corner.”
Hang a clipboard for each student. Use them throughout the year to display student work.
Refer to your morning work as, “The Kick-Off!”
Refer to the homework as “Batting Practice” or “Practice for the Big Game”
Title the class schedule, “Team Schedule.”
Create a compliment board titled, “Good Game!”
Call the area where students keep their coats and backpacks “The Locker Room.”

  5. I have a "These Books are a Hit!" board for student book recommendations. I use a baseball themed fabric on the bulletin board with baseball cut-outs.

  8. The best way to teach the children about the sports. Nice way of representation of the sports through charts.

  9. I am doing a sports theme this year and was interested in your behavior chart with the clothespins. What do the signs say? I used a color change chart this past year and would like to move away from that kind of behavior tracker. I am going to try the clothespin one but need to make it. Thank you.
